It’s a mystery to me, but when I asked a resident, and regular user of the road where I live known as Broadcast Drive, how many signs are dotted around the entirety of the road, the guess was just so totally wrong. The road is a one-way loop of about one kilometer in length. It is entirely residential in nature except for a couple of radio/TV stations near the start of the road. How can it be that a resident of 10 years guessed that there are only 24 road signs on the road? When in fact there are 74 or one every 13.5 meters. The Google map shows the extent of Broadcast Drive and I’ve placed a red dot for each road sign and tree along its one kilometer length.
The magnitude of the incorrect guess raises several questions. For instance, are all these road signs really necessary? If they are, they don’t seem to be doing their job of informing road users about the various rules and regulations. If the signs are doing their job, then 24 would appear to be sufficient, rather than the actual 74. Logically, then, has someone considered removing the 50 or so surplus signs from the road? This would increase the appeal of the road for residents, and would provide more room for residents to stroll down the pavements. There would be less need for maintenance. I should point out here that these road signs are competing for pavement space with the 30 or so trees that also line the road. If I had a choice, the first sign I would remove is the one in the photo below. The person that agreed to the construction of this sign needs shooting.
